The Many Elements Of Blogging
Many people who do not blog just do not get it. In fact, they still probably have problems with it even when it is explained at length. It comes down to the bottom line for them – which is the usual bottom line. “So, how much are you making at it?” Is that really the point of blogging? Some people take it easy and make money at it. In fact, they can basically copy and paste, for business reasons. A form blog, if you will.
Honestly, blogging is a time consuming process. Not only that, it requires skill and discipline that would do well to be applied to a money-making endeavor. It is really that important to get a few pleasant comments (and possibly some flames) from various readers you will probably never even meet?
Blogs tend to have a focus of interest. All these people who will never meet can still find a kindred spirit through the internet with this shared interest, whatever it is, be it a hobby or a professional subject. It can be a tool for sharing information or for networking. It can even be a way to vent and get some things off your chest, so you are not thinking about them or hampered by them at a critical time.
Those who are not involved in blogging just do not understand why bloggers do it. It is not that difficult a concept, at its heart. There are just times when you have a lot on your mind and no way to express it in a conventional manner. Writing a blog can be a way to disseminate information, of course, but it might be better thought of as a sort of catharsis, where someone who is full of worries or ideas or praise can put it all down and get some feedback from other people who may or may not feel the same way.
There are elements of blogging that just do not happen in a face to face conversation. Much bad press is made about the relative anonymity of the internet, but in blogging, the benefits of that can be found. People who have no other connection other than that common interest can come together and talk about things without having to worry about awkward moments at work the next morning or a strained friendship. That is the power that blogging gives to those who choose to engage in it.
Certainly, blogging is not a consideration for everyone. It may be even safe to say that blogging is not for most people. Those who do understand it and enjoy it and have reason to do so, however, find it an exciting and fulfilling outlet. Often, it is the only way you can really network with people who have a common interest in the midst of all the business of work and family. If nothing else, it can give you a certain feeling of freedom to express yourself without facing any recrimination in your personal life.
