The marketer has to take into consideration the actual market that they are promoting to. And this is where it is essential that any website that is promoting a product has to be sufficiently optimised for it to appear, preferably on the first page of the search engines. This can be either through an organic search undertaken by the prospect or through an ad appearing paid for by the affiliate which corresponds with the search terms used by the prospect. It is very important to attain a working knowledge of the process of the search engines and also how pay per click advertising operates. Affiliate marketing does offer great opportunities to bypass the process of product creation and hang on the coattails of someone else’s successful product. Yet this does not give the affiliate marketer a ready excuse for not familiarising themselves and understanding the skills that any successful internet marketer has mastered. That of internet marketing including understanding marketing to a specific niche and search engine optimisation.
