Is there a difference between a PayPal and a Merchant Account? Actually, PayPal is a more popular third-party Internet Merchant Account. Anybody who transacts with a PayPal member must also be member him/herself. When a customer pays, his fund will be transferred to his PayPal account which will then be transferred to your own PayPal account. It then allocates the fund to your concerned bank. You could also request for a check or a debit card. PayPal is best for new businesses with an average of $600-$700 profits only. It does not have a start up and monthly fees. It only charges transaction fees which is $0.30 per transaction at a discount rate of 2.9% per transaction and offers just an estimate of the shipping fees without including the taxes.
As far as shopping cart is considered, PayPal’s option is quite basic. In it you find that the calculation of shipping is done on an approximate basis rather than exactly basis. Even it doesn’t evaluate taxes at all. While on the other hand, Merchant account provides you various options of sophisticated and complex shopping carts where in both shipping and taxes are being calculated. It is the merchant account which offers you a customized selling approach as well as ordering process that caters to your business needs and thereby making the business transactions much easier for both your organization and customer.
These two are best depending whichever you think will be good for your business. For a more sophisticated approach, you can opt for the Merchants Account but if you want a straightforward transaction, PAYPAL is best for you. If your business is small or new, it is better to go for PAYPAL.
