If you only buy one search engine optimization (SEO) book, this is the one to buy. Bruce Clay is the guru of all gurus when it comes to SEO. He makes a highly complex and technical topic accessable to the average reader.

From beginner to pro, this book is appropriate. It is an outstanding desktop book for anyone responsible for creating a website or a product that runs on the web. We are all lucky that an industry pioneer like Bruce Clay has condensed his knowledge into something anyone can buy for less than $30!

Search Engine Optimization All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies (and make sure that it is this book, as there’s another one with a similar title floating out there that I know nothing about) is an in-depth informative book. I always thought the Dummies series to be very basic, more like a Wikipedia entry, but when I saw that Bruce Clay wrote this I had to buy it.
I’ve read Bruce Clay’s newsletter and attended his training class out in Simi Valley, and truly he is the authority on SEO. I consider myself a pretty good SEO, but this book helps reinforce everything, and at 768 pages, unless you know everything about SEO, you’ll find a lot of good information in here (if you sit on any panels at SES, SMX or other SEO-based conferences, please read this before spewing what you personally think is correct).
There aren’t many books on this subject that are worth anything, or as easy to read.
